"A nation that forgets its past has no future"
(Winston Churchill)
These programmes are designed to help students develop a better understanding of the legacy of war, by visiting some of the battle sites in the last century. In Ypres and The Somme, we revisit the Great War of 1914-1918, as one of the bloodiest in history - Thiepval Memorial, Beaumont-Hamel, the trenches at Sanctuary Wood, Tyne Cot War Cemetery, and witness the evocative sound of the Last Post at the Menin Gate. For a taste of ‘living history’, join the Platoon Experience and see first hand what life as a soldier was really like. World War II saw the greatest air and sea invasion in history, as we visit the Normandy Landing Beaches where thousands died in a single day, and reflect upon row upon row of well tended war graves. In Berlin, we explore the Third Reich and the SS in Nazi Germany, with visits to Sachsenhausen, the House of The Wannsee Conference and the Holocaust Memorial. And in Poland, a more poignant reminder of the inhumanity suffered by untold millions leads us to Auschwitz, where we investigate the atrocities that took place here.
GUIDED TOURS - We can arrange English speaking professional guides to escort you through the battlefield sites. Please ask for details.
